Recompose Error - The specified delta disk format 'seSparseFormat' is not supported

Hi

We are in the process of implementing vmware horizon view. The hosts are ESXi 5.1 and View is 5.2

I have created a new image of windows 7 32 bit and attached it to an existing pool that was working fine before. When I do a recompose the error message in vsphere client is

The specified delta disk format 'seSparseFormat' is not supported

Only thing I've done different with this image was to format the disk with 64k blocks.

Any help as to what is happening here much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

VMware Guest API is not enabled on the host?

Hi all

For some Windows 2008 R2 VMs we copy from vSphere to Workstation, we've noticed the following errors in event viewer (as two separate events). Any thoughts on whats causing this?

Unable to start "vmGuestLibrary". Error: "VMware Guest API is not enabled on the host" (3).

The "vmStatsProvider" can not be initialized. "vmGuestLib" returns error "VMware Guest API is not enabled on the host" (3).

Thanks!

I recently created a new pool of 3 linked clones.  All was okay for a few days but now I am getting the error message "database operation failed" when trying to edit the pool.  I cannot delete the pool, the error message is "unknown View Composer Error".    I am also unable to create a new Pool, the error message is "Internal View Composer error."

Run Multiple Concurrent Sessions in View 5.3?

$

Hello everyone, Im new to view, and changed my enviroment to View VDI instead of Terminal Services (RDP).

My old scenario was like this:

MS Server 2008 R2 Standard VM with 10 User CALS (10 users could login in at same time to their accounts on single Windows through RDP) and they could open same Application like it was 10 different PCs but on one PC. Basicly we had 10 Sessions simultaneously through RDP.  We had slight benefits using this setup:

1: It uses less resources (CPU and RAM) since Windows is already running and only extra applications were eating resources (for example 10 MS Words).

2. Single License on Windows and on all apps instead of 10 different licenses

3. Less Disk Space

So right now I have had setup VMware View 5.3, with same concurrent users 10 user CALS, but How do I connect all 10 of them through Vmware View Client to single machine so each can Login to his/her User Profile on same VM? If Windows supports multiple Concurrent connections to it, how is it possible to use this feature with View? Thanks all in advance.

Upgrade HP vSphere 5.5 to 5.5 U1 – Error Conflicting VIBS

We have a small vSphere Environment using the Essentials edition.  We have no Update Manager. To update we (virtually – using iLO) mount the installation .iso, boot from it and choose “upgrade” in the installation process. This process always worked fine – so far.

Attempting to upgrade from HP vSphere 5.5 to HP vSphere 5.5 U1 ends with the following error:

Errors/Warnings during system scan

CONFLICTING_VIBS ERROR […] Remove the conflicting vibs or use Image Builder to create a custom ISO providing newer versions of the conflicting vibs

[Broadcomm_bootbank_net-bnx2_2.2.5dv55-10OEM.550.0.0.1331828]

The current version 5.5 is a HP custom ISO as well as the version 5.5 U1 I tried to upgrade to.

This appears to me very similar to https://communities.vmware.com/thread/482105., which is marked solved although it appears to me it is more a workaround used there.

Any ideas? Do I have to wait for an updated version from HP?

RightSizing

I have a request from one of our application teams to build a new environment for one of their apps (Web, App, DB).  They are OK if I virtualize it and so is the software vendor although the vendor has stated they do not have any specs for vmware.. just that they will support it.

How do I buy the right size server and pick the right CPUs to virutalize on?  Let's say each server (3) calls for 1 x 2.9Ghz (8 Core) and 12GB RAM.  I want to virtualize on one or two servers so would I have to match the cores and GHz 1 to 1 and match the RAM 36GB to be safe?

The file specified is not a virtual disk error message

After an outage that happened on my VMware server, I could no longer start my virtual server due to virtual disk not recognized as a virtual disk by the any VMWARE: server, Player, ...

I tried all i could to fix this problem, but it won't work.

Now all i need to to recover the data out of the disk, and i played around with all the recommendations from VMware using vmware-recovery.exe on windows as well as on Linux.

I am pretty sure that i am missing something here: I changed the config file by removing any dependency between the snapshot and the disk as well as renaming the vmx file to a different one.

Is that mean the disk is corrupted? Not sure and if so how to fix this matter. Anyone with the same issue thoughts will be appreciated.

Any help will be appreciated.

Find parent VM from linked clone

Hello,

I'm trying to, from a linked clone VM`s hard disk, locate the parent`s hard disk (where the clone`s OS files reside) so I can determine how long exactly is my chain on clones and snapshots for a given vCenter server.

How can I go about doing this with a quick Powershell script?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Team,

Could any of you please tell me/guide me  how to deploy multiple vm deployment at a time using the template.

I know this is possible from the powercli scripts.. I just wanted to know how we deploy the vms from the VC Console itself..

Hi all,

after a lot of tuning I have a working installation of vdp 5.5.5. I have a single backup job for 30 vms and everything seems working well.

Now I need to edit my backup job but when I edit it "Loading..." windows stays forever.

Can someone help me in finding where the log files are located so I can troubleshoot the issue?

deploy VM from this template. Takes > 20 min.

What is a normal "Deploy VM from this template" time when the network have these specs:

- 1 GBIT Network. (Did a file-transfer and it had 904 MBIT throughput.)

- Transferring to a SSD from a 7200 SAS disk.

- Via ISCSI the deployment of Windows 7. Thin! 8 GB takes about 23 min. A 17 min with NFS,

- The disk write speed on the ISCSI target is between 20-30 MB/sec.

Been playing with the Disk.DiskMaxIOSize. No difference.

Transfering to a mechanic disk is much slower then ssd. we talking about < 10 mb/sek.

Any idea how to speed it up?

Server Hung and was not accessible

We had our server hang and was not able to access some of the shares on the server.

Windows Server 2008 R2 running on VMware ESXi 5.1

Vmware tools are installed

The errors shown consists of Event ID 1000 with Source as VMware Tools. But, each event is different from the other. I am attaching the event ID screenshot. Not sure what happened, that after the reboot it we had our DFS service which was stopped, started and it actually cause issues in accessing the DFS share.

Appreciate your input on this

VM Fusion, MacBook Pro early 2011 model setup assistance for this AT Specialist who is out of his realm :-)

Hello, I am a Rehabilitation Technologist with my states vocational rehabilitation agency.  I am working with a consumer who has a MacBook Pro core i5 w/4gb RAM early 2011 model.  He has bootcamp setup and runs the newest version of OSX and Windows 8.1 through BootCamp.  Then has the VMPlayer program on Windows 8.1 where he runs virtual machines of Server 2008, 2012 and 2003.  He uses JAWS screen reader on the windows side and voiceover on the mac side; He is complaining of poor performance once on the virtual servers.  I am wondering if it would make more sense to have him use VM Fusion to run all other of the OS' as virtual machines from the mac side instead of his current setup?  I am thinking upgrading his ram to the MAX 8GB would be helpful.

Any guidance or input on this would be greatly appreciated, I have very limited knowledge in all of this; please let me know if I can clarify or anything.

Thanks!

Windows Server 2012 and VMWare Player problems.

$

Hi,

I have a physical machine running Windows Server 2012 (64 bit).

I used VMware Converter 5.5.2 (the latest version afaik) to make a p2v of the machine.

Everything worked without problems.

Then, when I try to play the resulted virtual machine using VMWare Player 6.0.3, (almost) nothing happens: a black screen appears for some seconds and then the player returns to the virtual machines selection screen. Only a little box appears in the low-right corner of the player windows: it says that "no 3D support is available from the host" (if I'm not wrong, a standard message that always appears when a virtual machine runs for the fist time).

My question:

is there any limitation running a 2012 Server virtualized machine on VMWare Player?

Do I have to buy a license of the Plus version?

If not, what's the problem?

I tried to run a virtualized Windows Server 2003 (32bit) using the same tools on the same host and everything works fine.

The source machine is a Xeon X3430, 12Gb RAM, 2 partitions of 50Gb and 786Gb.

I tweaked the resulting vmx to set 8Gb of RAM and disconnecting all the ethernet interfaces.

The host machine is a Core i3-3220, 16Gb RAM and 4Tb disk space running Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks in advance.

Fusion 6.0.2 and OSx Mavericks 10.9.1 - Sleep Wake failure unless I shutdown or suspend my Win7Pro VM before closing lid

$

I recently bought a new macbook pro, tht is up to date with Mavericks 10.9.1

I bout Fusion 6 and migrated my VM from my old macbook that was running Fusion 4.

All seemed to go well.

The VM performs awesomely.

The problem is when I put the Macbook to sleep... I get the 'infamous' Sleep Wake Failure when I wake it up, and the macbook is restarted.

I say infamous, as there are many users of mavericks experiencing this for all sorts of causes.

In my case I singled the cause down to my VMware Fusion 6, running a Win7 Pro machine. If this is still running when I sleep the Macbook then I get the Sleep Wake Failure every time I wake the MacBook. If I shutdown or suspend the VM first, then this does not happen.

Please can this be looked at...

I used to work in this way with my old macbook (OSx Lion, Fusion 4) and never had issues sleeping the macbook and resuming.

Thanks

Simon

OVF export fails. Trying to move 2x VM's to SSD's on the same server

$

Hello all,

Im looking for some help getting 2 Server 2008 R2 VM's backed up so I can move them to a SSD raid 1 array on the same server. Currently ESXi 5.1.0 free eddition is running on a Dell PE T610 with 2x quad cores and 24GB of ram. The PERC raid controller was originally configured with 3x 250gd scsi drive in raid 5. Then in ESXi 2 VM's were created for each Windows server 2008. with in each of the VM's, 2 Virtual disks, one for the OS one for DATA.  One server is the DC the other is running just Exchange 2010. The DC has a 40GB C: virtual drive for the OS and a 150GB D: virtual drive for DATA storage. The Exchange server  had a 40GB virtual drive for the OS and a 200GB virtual disk for the DATA/Exchange data base. All thickly provisioned.  Bare metal backups of both windows servers using windows backups runs nightly to a in house NAS.

My Goal is to have just the 2 VM's OS's (C:) booting off the 250GB SSD's in a mirror array, and have the 2 DATA (D:) Virtual disks on the RAID 5 that currently everything is running on.

What I have done thus far. I have tried using a Acronis true image to image the whole server up then try to place it back on the SSD's then delete the DATA drives and extend the OD drive to fill the SSD's because the OS vdrives are about full . That fail as the entire size is close to 500GB and I have about 250GB available on the SSD's in RAID 1. I was hoping it only imaged up only the data being used which in total is about 200GB. But that dint work.

Next brought the entire server down pulled the 3 RAID 5 drives out. Put the 2 SSD's and installed the latest version of ESXi. create the 2 VM's Then what the plan was to boot off a server 2008 R2 disk and try to a bare metal restore from the windows backups on the NAS. But I had no way of pointing the recovery selection on the windows disk to the nas as the DC that hands DHCP and DNS was offline and i could only browse locally on the server. Also tried to get a external usb hd with the images on them mounted but that didnt work either. So i gave up on this night as it was about 4am and the company had to open at 8am so I had to get everything back up and running.
The next night I tried to use the export OVF Template utility which backed the DC up fine (~70GB backed up), but the Exchange server failed and has failed no matter what I have read what to try.It estimated ~230 minutes to backup but then fails with ~20 minutes left every time. Ive read that some admin have had issues with Virtual Drives <200GB. There is 240GB provisioned on the the 2 drives for this server but only 120GB of data are being used across both drives.  So now Im at a loss of how to get this done.

I was thinking of removing the DATA Virtual drive. The trying to back up the os then manually creating the DATA drive after I get both VM's to boot on the SSD"s. But if this does not work can I still revert back and add the Virtual Disk back in with out any issues? Im testing this remotely so I dont want to much risk involved getting back to a working state in case I can not back it up.

If anyone can give me some pointers Id appreciate it. Thanks
